Glossary
This glossary explains the words hosts and customers meet on Taji’s screens.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Account owner | The person who controls a customer account. Only they can invite people or move a domain. |
| ALIAS record | A DNS record that points a bare domain at a hostname, where a CNAME is not allowed. |
| Auth code | The transfer code a registrar gives you to move a domain. Also called an EPP code. |
| Auto-renew | When on, a service renews by itself, paid from the wallet if it covers the full amount. |
| Bank deposit | Paying at the bank, then uploading the slip so a person can match it. |
| Billing cycle | How often a service is billed, such as monthly or yearly. |
| Cautious rate | The exchange rate, with a small margin, used to price quotes, proformas and invoices in another currency. |
| Cautious mark-up | The margin the platform adds to the daily exchange rate to make the cautious rate. |
| Control panel | Where you manage a hosting service’s files, databases, email accounts and backups. |
| Credit note | A document that cancels all or part of an invoice. A voided invoice keeps its number and gets one. |
| DNS record | One line that tells the internet where a name goes, such as A, CNAME, MX or TXT. |
| EBM | Rwanda’s electronic billing machine system. A tax invoice there carries an EBM receipt number and QR code. |
| Grace period | The time after a domain expires when it can still renew at the normal price. |
| Idempotency-Key | A header that makes a repeated API request return the first answer, so nothing is done twice. |
| Invoice | A bill for what a customer owes, with its number, due date and total. |
| Minor unit | The smallest part of a currency, such as cents. RWF has none, so amounts are whole francs. |
| Nameservers | The servers that answer for a domain’s DNS. They decide where its website and email live. |
| Price floor | The lowest price you can sell at: your cost plus a minimum margin, with payment fees counted. |
| Proforma invoice | A bill issued before payment. The tax invoice is issued once the payment is confirmed. |
| Receipt | Proof of a payment, sent once the payment is confirmed. |
| Recovery codes | Ten one-use codes that get you back in if you lose the phone with your authenticator. |
| Redemption | The time after a domain’s grace period when it can be restored only with a registry fee. |
| Registrar lock | A setting that stops transfers you did not ask for. |
| Registrant | The person or business a domain is registered to. |
| Renewal | Paying for the next term of a domain or service before it ends. |
| Tax invoice | The invoice issued once a payment is confirmed. In Rwanda it carries the EBM receipt fields. |
| TIN | Tax identification number. It prints on tax invoices. |
| Transfer | Moving a domain from one registrar or provider to another. |
| Two-step sign-in | A second proof after your one-time code, from an authenticator app or a passkey. |
| Wallet | Money a customer holds with their host. It can pay invoices and renewals. |
| Webhook | A message Taji sends to your own server when something happens, such as an invoice being paid. |
